Abstract
Peningkatan penggunaan kendaraan bermotor berkontribusi terhadap meningkatnya emisi gas buang yang berdampak pada pencemaran lingkungan. Salah satu upaya untuk menekan emisi sekaligus meningkatkan kinerja mesin adalah melalui pemilihan bahan bakar dengan angka oktan yang sesuai serta penggunaan catalytic converter. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi angka oktan bahan bakar dan penggunaan catalytic converter terhadap unjuk kerja mesin serta emisi gas buang pada kendaraan Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan variasi bahan bakar Pertalite (RON 90), Pertamax (RON 92), Pertamax Green (RON 95), dan Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) pada beberapa tingkat putaran mesin. Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi torsi, daya, konsumsi bahan bakar, serta kadar emisi gas buang karbon monoksida (CO) dan hidrokarbon (HC). Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan angka oktan bahan bakar cenderung meningkatkan unjuk kerja mesin, yang ditunjukkan oleh nilai torsi dan daya yang lebih tinggi. Unjuk kerja mesin terbaik diperoleh pada penggunaan Pertamax Turbo (RON 98), sedangkan efisiensi konsumsi bahan bakar yang lebih baik pada putaran rendah hingga menengah diperoleh pada penggunaan Pertamax Green (RON 95). Selain itu, penggunaan catalytic converter terbukti mampu menurunkan kadar emisi CO dan HC secara signifikan pada seluruh variasi bahan bakar yang digunakan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan bahan bakar berangka oktan tinggi yang dipadukan dengan catalytic converter mampu meningkatkan unjuk kerja mesin serta menurunkan emisi gas buang, sehingga lebih ramah lingkungan dan sesuai dengan ketentuan baku mutu emisi kendaraan bermotor yang berlaku.Kendaraan Mistubishi Xpander mesin 1.5 L MIVEC DOHC,menghasilkan tenaga maksimal pada 6000 rpm dan torsi maksimum 4000 rpm.Nilai ini menjadi dasar penetapan pembatasan RPM oleh pabrikan dan mesin tidak dirancang untuk operasi angka lebih tinggi secara terus – menerus.

The increasing use of motorized vehicles contributes to increased exhaust emissions, which impact environmental pollution. One effort to reduce emissions while improving engine performance is through selecting fuel with an appropriate octane rating and the use of a catalytic converter. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in fuel octane rating and the use of a catalytic converter on engine performance and exhaust emissions in the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. The research was conducted using an experimental method with variations of Pertalite (RON 90), Pertamax (RON 92), Pertamax Green (RON 95), and Pertamax Turbo (RON 98) fuels at several engine speed levels. The parameters analyzed included torque, power, fuel consumption, and carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) exhaust emissions. The test results showed that increasing the fuel octane number tends to improve engine performance, as indicated by higher torque and power values. The best engine performance was obtained with the use of Pertamax Turbo (RON 98), while better fuel consumption efficiency at low to medium speeds was obtained with the use of Pertamax Green (RON 95). In addition, the use of a catalytic converter was proven to be able to significantly reduce CO and HC emissions in all fuel variations used. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the use of high-octane fuel combined with a catalytic converter can improve engine performance and reduce exhaust emissions, making it more environmentally friendly and in accordance with applicable motor vehicle emission standards. The Mitsubishi Xpander's 1.5L MIVEC DOHC engine produces maximum power at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. This value is the basis for determining RPM restrictions by the manufacturer, and the engine is not designed for continuous operation at higher speeds.
