Abstract
=================================================================================================
The construction of breakwaters in the coastal area of Lamongan Shorebase faces geotechnical challenges due to the presence of soft clay subsoil, which exhibits low bearing capacity and a slow Consolidation rate. These conditions pose a risk of excessive ground settlement that could compromise the stability and long-term performance of the structure. To address this issue, the study aims to design a Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) system capable of accelerating soil Consolidation to achieve 90% degree of Consolidation within a maximum period of 60 weeks, as a technical requirement for expedited construction.
The research was conducted through a comparative analysis of two approaches: without PVD (natural condition) and with the application of PVD as a ground improvement method. The research stages included the collection of soil test data and project technical information, followed by the calculation of settlement and Consolidation time for both scenarios. In the PVD approach, analysis was carried out both manually using classical calculation methods and through numerical modeling with Settle 3D software. Various installation patterns and PVD spacing were evaluated to determine the most effective configuration. The analysis results were used to compare each scenario against the 60-week time constraint. This study provides a solid technical basis for designing an optimal PVD system to accelerate the Consolidation of soft soil, improve construction efficiency, and ensure the stability of breakwater structures in the coastal environment of Lamongan.
The initial hypothesis of this study is that the use of Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) with a specific configuration is capable of accelerating excess pore water pressure dissipation, thereby reducing the consolidation time of soft soil compared to conditions without ground improvement. This study is expected to provide a technical basis for designing an effective PVD system in order to improve construction efficiency and ensure the stability of breakwater structures in the coastal area of Lamongan Shorebase.
