Abstract
mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya.
Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya.

A sedentary lifestyle is characterized by very low levels of physical activity,
dominated by prolonged periods of sitting or lying down. Such lifestyles are
increasingly common among students due to academic demands, digital technology
usage, and long study sessions. This condition is suspected to be linked to elevated
stress levels, which can impact both physical and mental health. This study aimed
to analyze the relationship between sedentary lifestyle levels and stress levels
among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah
Surabaya. A quantitative, analytical, cross-sectional study design was employed.
Total sampling was used to select students meeting the inclusion and exclusion
criteria. Sedentary lifestyle levels were measured using the Sedentary Behavior
Questionnaire (SBQ), while stress levels were assessed using the Perceived Stress
Scale-10 (PSS-10). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe
respondent characteristics and variable distributions, and bivariate analysis using
the Spearman test (significance level p<0.05). The results indicated that the
majority of respondents exhibited moderate sedentary lifestyle levels and
experienced moderate stress levels. Bivariate analysis revealed no significant
relationship between sedentary lifestyle levels and stress levels among the students
(p>0.05). Thus, a sedentary lifestyle is not a factor significantly associated with
stress levels among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas
Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Future research should consider other factors that may
influence stress levels, such as sleep quality, physical activity, academic workload,
and coping mechanisms.
