An Analysis Rhetoric Devices on Lyrics of Song “Crawling” and “Brompton Cocktail”

The research aims to analyze the types of rhetorical devices and explain how they are used to convey meaning in the lyrics of "Crawling" by Linkin Park and "Brompton Cocktail" by Avenged Sevenfold. Through a review of literature and previous studies, it was found that rhetorical devices are crucial tools for songwriters to express emotions and ideas effectively. This qualitative research analyzes song lyrics as documentary data. The data are examined using Miles and Huberman's (2014) interactive model, encompassing data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings show that five types of rhetorical devices are employed in the songs: metaphor, hyperbole, anaphora, repetition, and irony. A total of 28 data were identified. Repetition was the most dominant device with 12 occurrences, followed by metaphor with 9, and hyperbole with 5. Anaphora and irony each appeared once. The analysis reveals that these devices function to express emotions and meaning.
