Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi teknik ayunan elektroda pada posisi 1G terhadap tingkat porositas dan kedalaman penetrasi hasil pengelasan Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) pada plat baja AISI 5160. Variasi teknik ayunan yang digunakan meliputi ayunan lurus, zig-zag, dan setengah lingkaran. Pengelasan dilakukan menggunakan elektroda E6013 diameter 2,6 mm dengan arus 85 A pada posisi 1G. Material yang digunakan berupa plat baja AISI 5160 berukuran 100 mm × 60 mm × 10 mm dengan kampuh V sudut 60°. Pengujian porositas dilakukan menggunakan metode Dye Penetrant Test (DPT), sedangkan pengujian penetrasi dilakukan menggunakan Macro Test dengan larutan asam nitrat (HNO₃).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik ayunan elektroda berpengaruh terhadap tingkat porositas dan kedalaman penetrasi las. Teknik ayunan lurus menghasilkan porositas tertinggi dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 0,0645%, sedangkan teknik ayunan setengah lingkaran menghasilkan porositas terendah dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 0,0115%. Pada pengujian penetrasi, teknik ayunan zig-zag menghasilkan penetrasi tertinggi dengan rata-rata kedalaman 4,9 mm atau 49%, diikuti ayunan lurus sebesar 4,5 mm atau 45%, dan ayunan setengah lingkaran sebesar 4,25 mm atau 42,5%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik ayunan setengah lingkaran menghasilkan kualitas las terbaik dari segi minimnya porositas, sedangkan teknik ayunan zig-zag menghasilkan penetrasi paling dalam. Dengan demikian, pemilihan teknik ayunan elektroda yang tepat dapat meningkatkan kualitas hasil pengelasan SMAW pada baja AISI 5160.

This study aims to determine the effect of variations in electrode swing technique at the 1G position on the porosity level and penetration depth of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) welds in AISI 5160 steel plate. The swing technique variations used include straight, zigzag, and semicircular swings. Welding was performed using an E6013 electrode with a diameter of 2.6 mm, a current of 85 A at a 1G position. The material used was AISI 5160 steel plate measuring 100 mm × 60 mm × 10 mm with a 60° V-bevel. Porosity testing was conducted using the Dye Penetrant Test (DPT) method, while penetration testing was conducted using a Macro Test with nitric acid (HNO₃) solution.
The results showed that the electrode swing technique affected the porosity level and weld penetration depth. The straight swing technique produced the highest porosity with an average value of 0.0645%, while the semicircular swing technique produced the lowest porosity with an average value of 0.0115%. In the penetration test, the zig-zag swing technique produced the highest penetration with an average depth of 4.9 mm (49%), followed by the straight swing at 4.5 mm (45%), and the semicircular swing at 4.25 mm (42.5%). Based on the results, the semicircular swing technique produced the best weld quality with minimal porosity, while the zig-zag swing technique produced the deepest penetration. Thus, selecting the accurate electrode swing technique could improve the quality of SMAW on AISI 5160 steel.
