Abstract

Introduction Diet adherence is an important factor in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus because it helps control blood glucose levels and prevent complications. However, adherence to the diet remains low. Therefore, effective and engaging health education media, including animated videos, are needed to enhance understanding and encourage dietary compliance among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Objective to analyze the effect of animation-based dietary education on diet adherence in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Mojo Community Health Center. Methods this study uses a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 73 respondents, with a sample of 62 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The independent variable is diet education based on animated videos, and the dependent variable is diet adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Data were collected using the Perceived Dietary Adherence Questionnaire (PDAQ) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (α = 0.05). The results before the intervention showed that respondents’ dietary adherence was mostly in the moderate category: 45 respondents (72.6%) in the moderate category, none (0%) in the high category, and 17 respondents (27.4%) in the low category. After the intervention, the high category increased to 51 respondents (82.3%), the moderate category to 11 respondents (17.7%), and there were no respondents in the low category (0%). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that animation-based dietary education affects dietary adherence in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Conclusion Animation-based dietary education significantly improves dietary adherence in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Animation videos can be used as an alternative health education medium to enhance dietary adherence and support optimal diabetes control.
