Abstract

The main aim of this thesis is to study how extensive listening through YouTube
integrated into students’ speaking ability, which literary focused on the students’
speaking score achievement and students’ listening habit questionnaire result. The
problem statement relies on 1). Is there any correlation between extensive listening
through YouTube and students’ speaking ability, 2). How is the correlation between
extensive listening through YouTube and students’ speaking ability?. Besides, the
objective of this study concludes to find out there are positive correlation and the
significant correlation between extensive listening through YouTube and students’
speaking ability. In order to comply with those objectives, an observation was made
using quantitative research method and correlation prediction research design in
English Corner, speaking program at Muhammadiyah 2 senior high school of
Surabaya in the academic year of 2017/2018, which is 21 participants in the advance
class sets as the main target of the population. In addition, the theories of extensive
listening from Renandya (2011) and speaking from Brown (2004) are used to this
study. After collecting data using the questionnaire and rubric as the research
instrument, there is a positive relationship between extensive listening through
YouTube video and students’ speaking ability. The result is got from analyzing
statistical calculation that applied by SPSS program. Overall, it summarized that by
conducting extensive listening as a habit through YouTube will developing students
to speak English properly.
