Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a tropical climate with high humidity. The high humidity in Indonesia causes high cases of fungal infections. One of the factors that cause fungal infection is work. Work that requires being in a humid area, can lead to fungal infections. Fungal infections in humans can be divided into two, namely dermatophytosis and non-dermatophytosis. Dermatophytosis is a superficial fungal infection that attacks the keratinized part of the skin, nails and hair and is caused by 3 genera, namely Microsporum, Epidermophyton, and Trichophyton. While non-dermatophytosis is a fungal infection of the outermost skin or this type of fungal infection does not reach the keratinized tissue. Non-dermatophyte fungi include Aspergillus sp., Malessezia furfur. Due to dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungal infections, namely itching of the skin or earlobe. This study aims to isolate and identify dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi on cotton swabs of the feet of cleaning workers at a university in Surabaya. The results of the swab were planted on SDA media and then incubated for 7 days and then asked. The results obtained, that from 22 hygiene workers, 45.45% were positively infected with dertamophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi, namely 1 sample was infected with dermatophyte fungi (Trichophyton sp.), 1 sample was positive for non-dermatophyte fungal infection, namely Malessizia fulfur, and the remaining 38 samples were infected.
