Abstract

Departing from the proliferation of environmental problems, several
figures began to concentrate on the study of the close relationship
between the environment and literary works as a form of critical
movement, better known as eco-criticism. Eco-criticism is a view that
evaluates the characteristics of a piece of writing that describes the
effects of culture and/or humans on nature. The aims of this study is to
reveal how the representation of environmental issues and the
alignment of eco-critical views is shown in the fable "The Story of a
Seagull and a Cat That Teaches It to Fly" by Luis Sepulveda. This
research is a qualitative research using an eco-critical approach. The
data used are primary data sources, namely in the form of text notes in
fables. The results of this study show that through the views of literary
eco-criticism from several figures such as Garrard and Glofelty, this
fable has a plot which in every part emphasizes the representation of
the environment and the interrelationships between the entities in it.
According to Garrard and Glofelty's theory, there are three domains of
discussion, namely habitat, pollution, animals, and ecoracism..
