Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the implementation of environmental
education at Muhammadiyah 7 Elementary School in Surabaya. The research
method or technique used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach.
This research was conducted from October to November 2023. The research
location was at SD Muhmaadiyah 7 Surabaya, with the research subjects being 2
homeroom teachers and 6 students. The techniques used in data collection are
observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used in
this research is the Miles and Huberman model. Environmental education is study
material and materials about the environment in the context of direct or indirect
internalization in forming independent personalities as well as students patterns
of action and thingking and can be implemented in everyday life. According to the
results of research conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya, it can be
concluded that the implementation of eviromental education at SD
Muhammadiyah 7 does not have special subjects for environmental education.
However, environmental education is integrated into thematic or general lesson.
There are also activities, for example carrying out class pisckets, clean Friday
activities, caring for plants in the school environment, then there nature classes.
Not only intracurricular activities but also extracurricular activities such as Hizbul
Wathan. Some of these programs are the result of participating in the Surabaya
city government program, namely the SAS program. On the other hand, teachers
also find it difficult to implement environmental education in lower grades. The
difficulty felt is that of the lower class who always need guidance and assistance.
Apart from that, environmental education learning has become less centralized
because environmental education learning is still influenced by the substance of
the core subject matter. Then the teacher’s ability to teach environmental
education is also quite influential.
