Abstract
Key Words : Figurative language, Lyric, Poetry, Song and Total meaning. This study aims to identify the types of figurative language and analyze the meaning implicit in figurative found in Lenka Kripac’s songs, “Two”, “Sad Song”, Everything at Once”, and “Everything’s Okay”. Four song are used as the data source has a different story and they have different meaning. Therefore variations figurative language used is very interesting to studied. This research is descriptive qualitative and interprets figurative expressions in the song. Researchers collect and select the Lenka’s song, read and listen to the lyrics of the song, identify the figurative language of lyric and its meaning, and Finally analyze the total meaning of song. Theory associated with the type of figurative by K.L Knickerbocker and H. Reninger Willard (1963) are applied to identify the type of figurative and the theory of meaning by Alex Pate (2010) to analyze the figurative meaning is found.From the analysis it can be concluded that : (1) The lyrics of Lenka Kripac’s songs mostly consist of more than one figurative language, they are :symbolism, simile, personification, paradox, onomatopoeia, repetition and metaphor(2) Simile and Symbolism is the most common figurative language used in those songs. (3) On the other hand, :personification, paradox, onomatopoeia, repetition and metaphor are the less common figurative language used in those songs. (4) The figurative in those songs functions as a tool to illustrate the poetical effect of songs, and also describe total meaning .The meaning of the lyrics of the song tell about the meaning of life and love.
