Abstract

This research is aimed at finding kinds of defense mechanism and how KatnisEverdeen uses her defense mechanism as a strategy to fight against the Capitol in The Hunger Games novel to get better life especially for her family. The Hunger Games is a novel by Suzanne Collins as the example of human defense mechanism. The researcher uses two main theories to find the answer of research questions. The first theory of this research is the element of psychoanalysis to analyze KatnisEverdeen’s defense mechanism. The second theory of this research is Marxism to analyze how KatnisEverdeen uses her defense mechanism as a strategy to fight against the Capitol. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher finds two results of this research. The first result, there are five kinds of defense mechanism that used by KatnisEverdeen to win “The Hunger Games” those are, Repression, Projection, Regression, Displacement, and Rationalization. The second result, KatnisEverdeen uses five kinds of her defense mechanism to fight against the Capitol as a strategy to win the games and to fulfill the needs of living for her family.
