Abstract

Latar Belakang: Indonesia berada pada sekitar garis khatulistiwa sehingga mendapatkan paparan sinar matahari dengan intensitas tinggi, dari tiga lokasi yang dianggap mewakili suhu di Surabaya didapatkan rata-rata suhu pada angka 32,6 – 35,5oC. Sunscreen adalah kosmetik yang digunakan untuk mencegah dan meminimalisir efek samping atau bahaya paparan sinar UV. Di Indonesia persentase penderita kanker kulit sebesar 7% dan kanker kulit berada pada peringkat ketiga. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan dan praktik penggunaan sunscreen dengan kesehatan kulit pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif analitik observasional desain cross sectional. Subjek penelitian ini merupakan mahasiswa angkatan 2021 hingga 2023 Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Besar sampel minimal yang diperlukan adalah 76 responden. Pada realisasinya peneliti menyebarkan informed consent dan kuisioner, teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan metode simple random sampling dan peneliti mendapatkan total sampel 80 responden. Hasil: Hasil uji korelasi Spearman didapatkan sig. p 0,181 (>0,05) untuk korelasi pengetahuan terhadap praktik, sig. p. 0,215 (>0,05) terkait pengetahuan terhadap kesehatan kulit, dan sig. p. 0,001 (<0,05) pada praktik terhadap kesehatan kulit. Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan penelitian ini menyatakan tidak terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan terhadap praktik dan kesehatan kulit, namun terdapat hubungan antara praktik penggunaan sunscreen terhadap kesehatan kulit responden.

Background: Indonesia is located around the equator so that it gets high intensity sun exposure, from three locations that are considered to represent the temperature in Surabaya, the average temperature is 32.6 - 35.5 C. Sunscreen is a cosmetic used to prevent and minimize the side effects or dangers of UV exposure. In Indonesia, the percentage of skin cancer sufferers is 7% and skin cancer is ranked third. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and practice of sunscreen use with skin health in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Method: This study used a quantitative and analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The subjects of this study were students from the 2021 to 2023 intake of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya. The minimum sample size required was 76 respondents. In reality, the researcher distributed informed consent and questionnaires, the sampling technique was carried out using the simple random sampling method and the researcher obtained a total sample of 80 respondents. Results: The results of the Spearman correlation test obtained sig. p 0.181 (> 0.05) for the correlation of knowledge with practice, sig. P. 0.215 (> 0.05) related to knowledge with skin health, and sig. P. 0.001 (<0.05) on practice with skin health. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study states that there is no relationship between knowledge with practice and skin health, but there is a relationship between the practice of sunscreen use and the skin health of respondents.
