Background: Hypertension is a condition in which an individual experiences an increase in blood pressure above the normal range, with systolic pressure greater than
140 mmHg and diastolic pressure greater than 90 mmHg. This disease is known as a silent killer because it often occurs without symptoms, yet can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. One of the most important factors in controlling hypertension is patient adherence to taking antihypertensive medication regularly. Medication adherence plays a crucial role in stabilizing blood pressure, preventing complications, and reducing morbidity and mortality rates caused by hypertension. Objective: This study aims to analyze medication adherence among patients with hypertension in Sumber Mulyo, Surabaya. Method: This research used a descriptive design with a case study approach involving two respondents diagnosed with hypertension. Data were collected through structured interviews and direct observation using a medication adherence observation sheet. The data were analyzed descriptively to determine each respondent’s level of adherence. Results: The results showed that the medication adherence levels among the two respondents were categorized as moderate and high. Factors influencing adherence included knowledge about the disease, motivation, family support, and regularity in attending health check-ups. Conclusion: Medication adherence among hypertensive patients is influenced by both internal and external factors. Continuous health education, strong family support, and sustained motivation are essential to help patients maintain stable blood pressure and prevent further complications.
