Background: Preclinical studies are one of the stages that medical students must complete before becoming doctors. Medical students often experience high levels of pressure due to a tight lecture schedule, the large volume of material covered in each session, and the exams taken at the end of each block. The prevalence of burnout among medical students is 29.5%, while globally, it is 44.2%. this condition can potentially impact students’ academic achievement. Objective: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between burnout from academic activities and the achievement index of preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya. Method: This study employed an analytical observational research design with a cross-sectional approach using a stratified random sampling technique. The study subjects were preclinical students from the classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 who had not taken the exit exam and had not applied for academic leave. The minimum required sample size was 176 respondents; however, 194 students completed the questionnaire. From these, the researcher randomly selected 60 respondents from each batch, resulting in a total of 180 respondents. Results: A bivariate analysis was conducted using the chisquare test with a confidence level of p > 0.05 to examine the relationship between academic burnout and grade point average. The crossover analysis results showed p = 0.350 for exhaustion, p = 0.051 for depersonalization, and p = 0.312 for professional efficacy. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is no significant relationship between burnout from academic activities and the achievement index of preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya.
