Abstract
Latar Belakang: Pola asuh merupakan salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi kecerdasan emosional anak. Kecerdasan emosional adalah kemampuan mengenali, memahami, mengelola, dan mengendalikan emosi diri sendiri maupun orang lain. Pola asuh yang tepat dapat mendukung perkembangan kecerdasan emosional anak. Salah satu tipe pola asuh yang berperan dalam meningkatkan kecerdasan emosional adalah authoritative.
Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pola asuh orang tua terhadap kecerdasan emosional anak pra-remaja di SMP 5 Muhammadiyah Surabaya menggunakan kuesioner Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ), The Neglect Scale, dan Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire–Short Form (TEIQue-SF).
Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross-sectional dengan pengumpulan data melalui penyebaran kuesioner. Kuesioner PSDQ dan The Neglect Scale diberikan kepada orang tua untuk mengukur pola asuh, sedangkan TEIQue-SF diberikan kepada siswa untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosional anak. Data dianalisis untuk mengetahui pengaruh pola asuh orang tua terhadap kecerdasan emosional anak pra-remaja.
Hasil: Sebagian besar orang tua menerapkan pola asuh authoritative (94,6%), sedangkan mayoritas anak memiliki kecerdasan emosional kategori sedang (86,5%). Uji korelasi Spearman menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pola asuh orang tua dan kecerdasan emosional anak pra-remaja (p = 0,042) dengan kekuatan hubungan positif yang lemah (r = 0,238).
Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pola asuh orang tua dan kecerdasan emosional anak pra-remaja di SMP 5 Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Penerapan pola asuh authoritative cenderung berkaitan dengan tingkat kecerdasan emosional yang lebih baik, meskipun kekuatan hubungan yang diperoleh tergolong lemah.

Background: Parenting style is one of the factors influencing a child's emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and control one's own emotions as well as those of others. Appropriate parenting styles can support the development of a child's emotional intelligence. One type of parenting style that plays a role in enhancing emotional intelligence is the authoritative style.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the influence of parenting styles on the emotional intelligence of pre-adolescents at SMP 5 Muhammadiyah Surabaya using the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ), Neglect Scale, and Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire–Short Form (TEIQue-SF).
Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design with data collection via questionnaires. The PSDQ and Neglect Scale were administered to parents to measure parenting styles, while the TEIQue-SF was administered to students to measure emotional intelligence. Data were analyzed to determine the influence of parenting styles on the emotional intelligence of pre-adolescents.
Results: The majority of parents employed an authoritative parenting style (94.6%), while most children fell into the moderate category for emotional intelligence (86.5%). The Spearman correlation test revealed a significant relationship between parenting styles and the emotional intelligence of pre-adolescents (p = 0.042), with a weak positive correlation (r = 0.238).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between parenting styles and the emotional intelligence of pre-adolescents at SMP 5 Muhammadiyah Surabaya. The application of an authoritative parenting style tends to be associated with higher levels of emotional intelligence, although the strength of the observed relationship was weak.
