IMAGERY MEANING IN HENRY TIMROD’S POEMS ENTITLE “HARK TO THE SHOUTING WIND’’, ‘’HYMN - A SACRED CONCERT’’ AND ‘’’ON PRESSING SOME FLOWERS”

This research discusses about imagery in poems, the “Hark to the Shouting Wind”, ”Hymn-A Sacred Concert” and “On Pressing Some Flowers” by Henry Timrod. The first basic concept to consider in the poem is the usage of imageries to reveal the meaning in “Hark to the Shouting Wind”,”Hymn-A Sacred Concert” and “On Pressing Some Flowers”. The researcher uses several theories to analyze the kinds of imageries namely theory’s, imageries and meaning. This is a qualitative research. They were six imageries found in the poems such as visual imagery, auditory imagery, tactile imagery, kinesthetic imagery, olfactory imagery, and gustatory imagery. Meanwhile, total meaning of “Hark to the Shouting Wind” is about fight life. The second poem, ”Hymn-A Sacred Concert” is about reflect the praise that can change the heart to be better. And the last poem“On Pressing Some Flowers”is about thesadness when the true love is gone and to heal it people should purity himself by coming back to God.
