Abstract

The use of fossil fuels in Internal Combustion Engines has a very serious impact on the environment. The
strategy to minimize the impact is by applying a catalytic converter (CC) to reduce the exhaust gases. This study
uses the meta-synthesis systematic review method, which is a qualitative systematic review method aimed at
collecting and extracting information from the analyzed articles. The data in this study includes 22 international
journal articles indexed in Scopus ranked Q4-Q1, conference proceedings, and book chapters related to substrate
design and CC materials on the effectiveness of exhaust gas reduction. The review results were discussed in depth,
leading to the insight that the design of the substrate and CC material has a varied impact on the effectiveness of
exhaust gas reduction in Internal Combustion Engines.
