Abstract
Program Profesi Ners Keperawatan Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya
Latar Belakang Diabetes melitus tipe 2 merupakan penyakit degeneratif dengan prevalensi tinggi pada lansia. Hiperglikemia kronis yang tidak terkontrol dapat memicu komplikasi serius. Terapi komplementer seperti rebusan kayu manis (Cinnamomum sp.) berpotensi menurunkan kadar glukosa darah melalui peningkatan sensitivitas insulin dan perbaikan metabolisme glukosa. Tujuan Penelitian Mengetahui pengaruh rebusan kayu manis terhadap kadar glukosa darah pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2. Metode Penelitian Penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus pada dua lansia penderita diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Panti Werdha Hargo Dedali Surabaya. Intervensi berupa rebusan 10 gram kayu manis dalam 100 ml air hangat diberikan setiap hari selama tujuh hari. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan gula darah puasa sebelum dan sesudah intervensi serta wawancara pasien.
Hasil Penelitian Responden 1 (Tn. D, 70 tahun) mengalami penurunan kadar gula darah dari 172 mg/dL menjadi 104 mg/dL. Responden 2 (Tn. H, 63 tahun) turun dari 216 mg/dL menjadi 100 mg/dL. Kedua responden melaporkan kondisi tubuh lebih ringan dan berkurangnya rasa lelah tanpa efek samping signifikan. Kesimpulan dan Saran Rebusan kayu manis berpotensi menurunkan kadar gula darah pada lansia dengan diabetes melitus tipe 2 dan dapat digunakan sebagai terapi komplementer untuk mendukung pengelolaan glikemik.

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a degenerative disease with a high prevalence among the elderly. Uncontrolled chronic hyperglycemia may trigger serious complications. Complementary therapy such as cinnamon (Cinnamomum sp.) decoction has the potential to lower blood glucose levels by increasing insulin sensitivity and improving glucose metabolism. Objective To determine the effect of cinnamon decoction on blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Method This descriptive research employed a case study approach involving two elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Panti Werdha Hargo Dedali Surabaya. The intervention consisted of administering 10 grams of cinnamon boiled in 100 ml of warm water, given once daily for seven days. Data were collected from fasting blood glucose examinations before and after the intervention as well as patient interviews.
Results Respondent 1 (Mr. D, 70 years old) experienced a decrease in blood glucose level from
172 mg/dL to 104 mg/dL. Respondent 2 (Mr. H, 63 years old) showed a decrease from 216
mg/dL to 100 mg/dL. Both respondents reported subjective improvements, including feeling lighter and less fatigued, without significant side effects. Conclusion Cinnamon decoction has the potential to reduce blood glucose levels in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and may be applied as a complementary therapy to support glycemic management.
