Abstract

Latar Belakang: Student Oral Case Analysis (SOCA) merupakan metode penilaian terhadap pengetahuan mahasiswa yang berfokus pada pemahaman dan penerapan pada suatu kasus dengan cara mahasiswa berhadapan langsung dengan seorang atau beberapa penguji. Memiliki kelebihan dalam meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi dan interaksi ilmiah secara professional yang dapat dimanfaatkan mahasiswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan presentasi ilmiah. Namun, belum ada bukti empiris yang dapat menunjukkan bahwa metode ini valid dan reliable untuk mengukur pemahaman dan kemampuan penalaran klinis mahasiswa. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kemampuan penalaran klinis sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran dengan nilai ujian Student Oral Case Analysis (SOCA) pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain one group pretest-posttest dengan analisis komparasi Wilcoxon serta uji korelasi spearman. Sebanyak 149 mahasiswa dari angkatan 2022 dan 2023 menjadi sampel penelitian. Hasil: Berdasarkan uji analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan penalaran klinis setelah pembelajaran (p=0,000 pada blok 16) namun tidak signifikan pada blok 9. Terdapat hubungan signifikan antara nilai pretest dan SOCA (r=0,165; p=0,045), serta antara posttest dan SOCA pada blok 16 (r=0,273; p=0,023). Kesimpilan: Terdapat Hubungan yang signifikan antara penalaran klinis sebelum dan sesudah dengan SOCA terutama pada blok 16.

Background: Student Oral Case Analysis (SOCA) is an assessment method that evaluates students’ knowledge by focusing on comprehension and application in clinical cases through direct interaction with one or more examiners. This method is known to enhance professional communication skills and scientific interaction, supporting students in improving their academic presentation abilities. However, empirical evidence regarding the validity and reliability of SOCA in measuring students' clinical reasoning and understanding remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between clinical reasoning skills before and after learning and the SOCA examination scores among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design with wilcoxon comparation and spearman correlation analysis. A total of 149 students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts participated in this study. Results: The results revealed a significant improvement in clinical reasoning ability after learning in block 16 (p = 0.000), but not in block 9 (p = 0.340). A significant correlation was found between pretest scores and SOCA scores (r = 0.165; p = 0.045), as well as between posttest scores and SOCA scores in block 16 (r = 0.273; p = 0.023). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between clinical reasoning ability before and after learning and SOCA performance, particularly in block 16.
